One of the less popular subjects of Christian teaching but one which the New Testament devotes a great deal of attention to is the subject of suffering. Not just regular suffering - the hurts, disappointments, and losses we experience as humans living in this vale of tears - but specifically Christian suffering. That is to say, the pain and losses we experience as Christians, simply for being Christians, because of our faith. Or more often because of our obedience to Jesus. Both Jesus and the apostles talk about this - a lot. They tell us to expect suffering, they tell us how to face it, and they tell us what it can do for us.
