Qoheleth (“the Preacher”) is the writer of the book of Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament. The Preacher's characteristic refrain is “Vanity, vanity, all is vanity, and a chasing after the wind.” He's reminding us that all worldly human ambition is really a dead end. So maybe the best thing to do – the wisest thing – is to give ourselves to whatever our heart's desire... Not so fast, says the Preacher.
